Dragon Tree forest
Madagascar
Africa
Contact: Dr. Friederike Woog, State Natural History Museum Stuttgart, Germany

In 2006 & 2007 proposed by: Dr. Friederike Woog, State Natural History Museum Stuttgart, Germany

Madagascar has been assigned by the IUCN as megadiversity country, with characteristically high portions of endemic flora & fauna. The Dragon Tree Forest “Maromizaha” is situated in the mid-east of the Island and is part of the so-called Andasibe-Mantadia biodiversity corridor that in total overspans about 5000ha.
The State Natural History Museum of Stuttgart (SMNS), Germany, has lead various recent inventories of birds, mammals, moths, beetles, sesiids and isopods, but most groups remain incompletely surveyed.
The site has easy access from Antananarivo, the capital city of Madagascar. ATBI related activities can profit from the existing collaborations between SMNS and the German “Stiftung Natur und Artenschutz in den Tropen” (NAT) and the University of Antananarivo, Madagascar.
