Call for training providers for the EDIT Summer School 2008

We are currently looking for

Theoretic component: Motivated lecturers to give presentations on modern taxonomy (history, theory, future trends), applied taxonomy (biodiversity, conservation, other applications) and “Best Practice” in field sampling methods (protocols, materials). We are open to suggestions for alternate course topics. However, due to time constraints the total number of theoretic lectures cannot be increased.

Field Work component: Enthusiastic field researchers specialised in a specific taxonomic group who are willing to initiate students in taxonomy, the principles of field work & lab work during the on-going ATBI+M. Please note that for pedagogic reasons we are currently limited to the presentation of taxonomic groups that can be identified using simple infrastructure (i.e. the largest magnification available on-site will be 50-500x). An objective of the field work is namely to show students how lists of primary occurrence data are compiled for the ATBI+M activities. We apologize to those taxonomists who for this reason are unable to present their taxon at the 2008 Summer School and urge them to re-apply for the 2009 Summer School, where facilities may be more accommodating for taxa that require more processing for identification.
